In 2004, Sharon realised a vision: SANDSTONE. An investment firm with an ability to provide Direction, Confidence, and Independence to every client relationship. All while providing discretionary wealth management and creating possibilities for clients, employees, and community alike. For Sharon, client service and independent research are true passions; she regularly investigates beyond statistics. These are the foundations on which SANDSTONE Asset Management was built, and the fundamentals that allow her firm to thrive continually.
Sharon's interest in world events began at an early age, working in her father's firm on the Baystreet. Her professional career began at Merrill Lynch. Working for years in worldly finance, her international investment expertise - elevating SANDSTONE today - developed and expanded at Merrill Lynch, establishing invaluable experience. With Sharon's financial and investment career established, her interest in global activities grew stronger, encouraging private research and personal development in an ever-changing world.
As Sharon's footprint in the investment field deepened, she appropriated her extensive experience by going on to co-found and co-direct the Calgary offices of Gordon Private Client service, and McLean & Partners. Building on this experience by becoming alumni of Singularity University, instilling a motto of being exponential, empowering a global community, and creating a network for an abundant future.
"There is a reason we place our trust in SANDSTONE, Sharon is that reason." - Private Client
Determined to develop personally and maintain involvement in both the social and investment communities, Sharon currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Global Business Forum. Expanding her knowledge-base and providing leadership at annual meetings in Banff, Alberta. Sharon also served as a Director on the National Board of the Investment Industry Association of Canada and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organisation of Canada's (IIROC) Alberta District Council.
She is active in the community as a volunteer, serving on not-for-profit boards, and working with diverse organisations including Calgary's Alberta Ballet Foundation and previously with Propellus (formerly CentrePoint), a resource and support centre helping connect people in our community to volunteer opportunities that support local charities through a variety of programs. Further impressive accomplishments would be her co-sponsorship; establishing the Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management in 2003, and Calgary Makerspace, an organisation focused on bringing individuals together and providing much-needed tools and workspace to local artists, entrepreneurs, and small businesses.
Aside from the values in business and community, Sharon believes in strong relationships with her clients and staff alike. These moral beliefs are clearly active every day with her husband, four grown children, and five grandchildren.
Since the formation of SANDSTONE in 2004, Brent has been responsible for ensuring the firm's adherence to its core investment philosophy; creating possibilities for clients, employees, and community; providing discretionary, intelligent and independent investment management services to private individuals, foundations, and family trust. All while contributing his experience to big-picture decisions relating to investments and the firms' direction.
In the late 90's, Brent began his career with one of Canada's largest financial institutions; CIBC Wood Gundy. Here he worked with an experienced team, gaining valuable knowledge and experience of his own. Along with standard duties and market observations, personal development has, and will continue to be, a major focus for Brent.
Several years into building his knowledge of the investment field and acquiring industry credentials, a familiar friend introduced him to Sharon Watkins. Recognising their shared investment philosophy and aspirations, Brent and Sharon stepped out on their own, forming SANDSTONE Asset Management Inc.
Brent holds dual Degrees from the University of Saskatchewan, majoring in both Finance and Economics. In addition to his U of S credentials, Brent is alumni of the Executive Program at Singularity University, an academic mecca whose mission is to educate, inspire and empower leaders to apply exponential technologies addressing humanity's grand challenges.
"We look forward to seeing Brent on a personal and professional level at each OUTLOOK Event. See you this year!" - Private Client

Over the years, he also served as a jury member for the City of Calgary Awards, celebrating outstanding achievements and contributions made by Calgarians.
Brent is married with three active children. When spare time becomes available, he enjoys encouraging community involvement through events, such as hosting concerts where the only way to gain entry is to perform. Showing his knack for being neighbourly and approachable. In addition to family and community activities, Brent has participated in Ironman competitions around the world and several marathons, even winning one of them!
These are only a few examples of why Brent was selected as one of Avenue Magazine's Top 40 under 40.
