Twenty years ago, in June 2004, the world was spinning around with much of the same curiosity and commotion as today.
Paul Martin was serving as Canadian Prime Minister, with George W. Bush presiding over the U.S. The most popular name for baby boys was Jacob (it’s since slipped to 20), while the girls’ equivalent was Emma (still soaring in fourth spot). Calgarians and Canadian hockey fans alike will remember the heart-wrenching Saturday when the Calgary Flames faced a devastating loss in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. This game, often referred to as the 'Gelinas Phantom No-Goal,' is infamously ranked as the second most controversial goal in NHL playoff history by Bleacher Report.
For us, the summer solstice month holds a special meaning. It was on June 14, 2004, when SANDSTONE Asset Management opened its doors, primed and ready to serve our clients. Proud to introduce our brand-new wealth management company to the Calgary marketplace.
Over the past two decades, we have grown from a fledgling firm, dubbed "the little engine that could", into a respected leader in wealth management, "creating possibilities" for our clients, colleagues, and community. Above all, this milestone is a celebration of the incredible relationships we have built and shared with our clients over the years — and for that we are grateful.
To commemorate this momentous anniversary, we dug through the archives to invite you along a trip down memory lane. We hope you enjoy the ride.

BUILDING THE DREAM
While our compact team was busy crunching numbers and balancing portfolios, the dream of a downtown office was slowly materializing. Nestled in the heart of Calgary, a stone's throw from the Bow River and Peace Bridge, our founders were readying the Joe Phillips Building to welcome clients. In fact, it remains our office to this very day!

There has been no shortage of festivities over the years at SANDSTONE. From Christmas to Stampede to baby showers to retirement parties, we've always found reasons to celebrate our successes and milestones together. As we mark our 20th anniversary, we reflect on the countless moments of camaraderie that have defined these two decades.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
From the unsightly entrance to the garish lime-coloured walls, our humble journey began in a small space with a big vision to provide unparalleled global wealth management services. Those early days refined our company's values and laid the foundation for what would later become a thriving firm in Calgary's Eau Claire.

On June 7, 2004, we packed our bags and moved into SANDSTONE Asset Management's brand-new office, officially opening our doors on Monday, June 14, 2004. The excitement was palpable as we welcomed our first clients, marking the beginning of an incredible journey. It's hard to believe it's been 20 years already!

From the start, community stewardship has been one of SANDSTONE's cornerstone values. In this respect, there’ve been many milestones and achievements —a chief one being the success of our annual fall CONNECTS speaker series that’s as old as we are! Many long-time clients will also remember the early years of our highly anticipated OUTLOOK event.
